ATTENTION: requires a little preparation
Learn by playing is a principle of ICAN English speaking Club. We carefully choose the games that provoke speaking and give intellectual satisfaction, and also help build a friendly community of best people.
This time we are going to play a web-based version of the
TV game show What? Where? When? which was extremely popular in Russian-language media since the mid-1970s.
What? Where? When? is an intellectual game where the participants compete in their erudition, logical thinking capabilities and wits.
Unlike in the original game, we cannot form teams of savvies, so, it will be individual competition.
All of the participants should send the host their questions and the answers. The questions will be posted in the group, and the first player who raises his/her hand will be given a chance to answer.
If the answer is correct, the player earns two points.
If the answer presented by the author of the question is more precise or gives additional valuable information, both the players are awarded a point.
In case no one can answer the question, two points are scored by the author of the question.
The one who sent in the question earns a point, if the experts cannot give the correct answer, while the team of experts earns points if they manage to get the correct answer.
And will there be any prizes?
Yes, the player who will score the highest will be awarded a prize.
The prize will be chosen depending on the personality and the location of the winner.
This game develops all the four skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking + logical thinking and the ability to present the ideas clearly. It will definitely boost the vocabulary and will give a chance learn something interesting.
The Key point here is the quality of the questions.
The questions should be about something that has value, can be meaningful to the participants. They should NOT test the knowledge of some facts, but instead should require a combination of skills such as logical thinking, intuition, insight, etc. to find the correct answer.
IMPORTANT:
1) Both a question + the answer should be sent to the host.
2) References to the source of information should be provided, if available.
Deadline for the questions: 6 pm on July 21.
