Due to the coronavirus /COVID-19 pandemic, ICAN, English Speaking Club, is running its meetings online.

Join us every Tuesday at 6.30 p.m. Minsk time (UTC+03:00). Buy your tickets here. Each ticket holder will receive a link to the video conference.

How often do we have to justify our point of view, convince and explain! Our success (not in learning - in life!) depends on these soft skills.

And how often do we hear, "Let's stop arguing, there is no point in trying to explain and persuade - let everyone their own mind,"  and we stop, but later we suffer from mistakes, our own or made by our loved ones, and we are sorry for not stopping them, not giving timely advice, not guarding them against the wrong decision.

Actually, the decision-making algorithm ultimately comes down to the choice between "good" and "bad”, but our ability to make the correct judgement is often clouded, because we live in the times of aggressive advertising, fake news, manipulative statements and informational noise. This is why the ability to convince oneself and our near and dear becomes indispensable.

The ability to convince can be learned. It consists of several simpler skills: the ability to see the point and causal relationship; the ability to highlight the key point in a particular situation; the ability to show the partner the advantages of one option over another.

On June 2, 2020 in the ICAN, English Speaking Club, we will hone our ability to spot the main point and verbalise the message so as to sound convincing as well as the ability to notice mistakes and weaknesses in our opponent’s arguments and destroy them.

Unlike standard debates, which require complex teamwork and much more time, mini-debates are more dynamic, increase speaking time, and allow us to focus on the message. Mini-debates are as exciting as "big" debates, and, besides, they are suitable for any company.

The session will be conducted in English. We work in small groups, the number of participants is limited. Buy your tickets here. Each ticket holder will receive a link to the video conference.
