A musical epigraph

The history of Belarus is the most intriguing detective story. This land was a battle field for stronger and more aggressive nations, its parts were given by foreign rules to neighbors or lost in wars, and strategic unions with other states blurred the distinctive features of the nation. And each foreign ruler had the history re-written to wipe certain events off the memory of the people and to destroy the national identity. Due to continuous wars and looting, a lot of documents perished or were stolen, which makes it extremely difficult to restore the true history of the country. Nevertheless, new archeological excavations, philological research and access to archives in other countries shed more and more light on the past.

On November 29, 2016 we will talk about the unknown or misinterpreted facts about the history of Belarus.

Every participant is encouraged to make a short talk about an event or fact, which remains unknown, ignored or misrepresented. It can be some research findings, or a publication, or a story told by your grandparents about their first-hand experiences.

Valentina will make a presentation about her recent trip to Mscislaŭ, a historic town in the east of Belarus, which used to be a cultural and trade center and also an outpost on our eastern frontier.

In the end we will run a short informative quiz, so that to take home the key dates, events and the names of the historical figures.
