Tournament of young mathenaticians

Tournament of young mathenaticians

Add to favorites
This is an international tournament. There were also teams from St. Petersburg, Grodno, Brest and other cities.
So month ago we were given the tasks. Our team was solving problems during this four weeks. I was given a very hard task about relation between objects. For me it was very hard.
The main idea of the tournament is math battle. There were four roles: a reporter, an opponent, a reviewer and a spectator. And the jury judged the battle.
A reporter had to report his/her task and to answer all questions. An opponent had to ask a reporter questions and tell where a reporter had a mistake. A reviewer was to ask an opponent questions and tell where an opponent had a mistake. A spectator had to tell what a reporter, an opponent and a reviewer were incorrect.
There were two tours and a final in this tournament. I took part only in one tour, because my task was very hard and other teams didn't want to report it. By the way, I was an opponent and my presentation was praised as a very good. Other people in my team also did their presentations very well.
For me it was a very good experience to work in a team and to take part in a math battle. We've got  the fourth place. I attach the photo where you can see our diploma. I liked this tournament and I will take part in it next year.

It's a very interesting text, Ksenia! It is exciting to know that in addition to your success in languages, art and sports you are you also keen on math. Math teaches to think logically and, which is the foundation for other things.
Thank you also for the emotional pictures, which convey the excitement of the event. And who is that man? He looks like someone important… Why not to mention the name?
Regarding your text, remember that you cannot "jump" between tenses. You are telling a story, which means that you are writing in the past, so use past tenses. If you wish to give general information, give it as one paragraph, or mark it with the words "generally", "usually".
Another rule to bear in mind is the use of articles. Use "a(n)" or zero article (nothing) when you mention something for the first time. In your case the articles were not needed when you used the words "reporter, opponent, reviewer and spectator" for the first time, because these were roles, not people, which means you used them in the category of names, positions and functions. In the sentence, when you introduce yourself for the first time (you are a countable item :-) ), the use of "an" is correct:
"By the way, I was an opponent".
However, when you started describing the procedure, you started speaking about PEOPLE, and they were related. This means that you were not speaking in general, and "the" should have been used.
Also, check your spelling, please.
The total score for this text is 904 points and you are awarded an ICAN Winner sticker!
