People often call architecture «static music». But architecture is more than just art – it is creating buildings we live and work in. They should be not only visually attractive. They should be convenient for people.

I have been interested in this sphere since I was in the eighth form. I think it is a great idea to study architecture because there are many challenging things to do in this sphere.

For instance, nowadays humanity stands on a threshold of space expansion, and I believe that sooner or later we will have a necessity to build a city on another planet. It would be great if I managed to take part in such a significant event in history of architecture. Building a city in a completely new place allows architects and engineers to construct all the necessary infrastructure including underground communications. Making such things in old cities is quite difficult due to the necessity of tearing down old buildings and providing the dwellers of those buildings with a new accomodation. If we build the whole city from beginning to end, we will not have to face these problems because we will have a project which includes everything we need.

Also building a city on another planet will be challenging for scientists and engineers because we will have to make an isolated system which will work automatically, without any support from the Earth. That means we need completely new technologies in areas of energetics, oxygen and water producing, etc. We also need to be sure that this system will work well in emergency situations.

So the main reasons to become an architect for me are challenging projects and a possibility to work with the newest technologies. I want to make our cities more convenient for people, more ecologically friendly and more beautiful.

Next year I am taking university entrance exams. I am looking forward to studying architecture.
